LIGHT-UP INTERNATIONAL e.V. is a privately run NGO. It was founded in Berlin by a team of young people aspiring to improve the well-being of street children and/or children living in socially disadvantaged families, who are deprived of the childhood they deserve. Article 27 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child recognizes “the right of every child to a standard of living adequate for the child’s physical, mental, spiritual, moral and social development.”

With the idea of starting small, LIGHT-UP INTERNATIONAL e.V. initially began working with other non-profit partners based in Mumbai, India, and is gradually expanding its programme based on regular assessments.

Support is provided initially (but not exclusively) by donating materials for educational purposes, such as solar lamps, ear plugs, school materials and other important supporting aids, as required and agreed with local representatives.

By providing educational support material, we aim to create an environment which enables more children to take advantage of educational opportunities.

LIGHT-UP International was founded in 2020 as a non-profit and benevolent association. So far, it has been financed exclusively through private donations, but it is in the process of expanding and diversifying its sources of finance.
